JAPAN: Shizuoka - Tokyo
We have both lived and taught in Japan years ago. This is a country that will always attract us with their amazing hospitality and great traditions. The food has become apart of out diet here in Canada – sushi, okonomikya, tempura, yakitori, miso and green tea are delicious. From the busy streets in Tokyo to the remote and remarkable Mt. Fuji, to the memorial site in Hiroshima – we have traveled all over Japan and have had a wonderful experience every time. There are festivals every weekend which you don’t want to miss. English books and newspapers will keep you in touch with the other gaijins (tourists) and what is happening where.
Japan is always on the cutting edge of new technology and style. There is also the traditional pottery that goes back thousands of years. We came across a store that has pottery from the city Seto. The owners were very welcoming and had a great selection.
The small serving plates to the tea pots show how portions should really be. Our excessive plate size in North America had really become an attraction for the Japanese - included in their photo collection of North America is portion sizes in restaurants. Final Thoughts » |
